Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all the dad's out there!
To my friend Eric, I hope you have a wonderful day. I haven't told you, but I love reading your emails. I enjoy hearing about the things you do, whether it is work-related or otherwise. It just hit me the other day how long we have known each other. I was still in high school, now I am a grandmother. Over 30 years! Even though we had lost each other for a long time, I am happy we are back in touch. And I'm glad you have a wonderful woman in your life. Take care of her and yourself.

It has been 36 years. The Solider that shipped out in March of 1972 had already served a tour in Vietnam, Germany and Japan. It was time for him to go home. He vividly remembers the most beautiful blond schoolgirl he was leaving behind. Not to behold in all the years hence. The girl was young and the Soldier too inexperienced in the matters of love to know how to hold her. He wandered for several years with her on his mind.

Yes he has a woman of 32 years. Always faithful and always beautiful. A mirror to his soul. The wife and the schoolgirl have most of the same qualities. Beauty, Intelligence and a mothering nature. Regrets. Yes and no.

In the ensuing 36 years, bridges have been burned, houses have been built, children have been born and love ones moved on. Yet, as Bogie said. “We will always have Tokyo”.

In my mind, Diane will always be eighteen. What else could she be?
